Antique Victorian 1890 Lady Stove Pipe Straw Hat

Product Information

A millinery delight from the 1890's in a stove pipe design.  This lady's  natural straw brimmed hat not only has a tall crown but to give added height the wired brown velvet ribbon extends several inches above the crown.   Certainly perched on the head it would give a taller illusion.  Definitely a hat pin would be in order to secure this creation from toppling from the head.

Loops of the velvet ribbon are fastened together with an oval cut steel buckle.   The same color of ribbon also forms the hat band.

Under side of the hat  showing a velvet strip and fabric flowers.  The head would rest on this point of the hat.  Silk label inside of crown  giving the name of Seeley & Reed, Fine Millinery, Freeport, Ill.

Condition of the hat is in remarkably good shape.  A dark small spot on the straw near the cut steel buckle.  Some wear to the ribbon at the bend of the loops.  Straw is in very good condition.   The width of the brim is 2-3/4" wide at the widest point.  Overall width of the hat from one side to the other is 10-3/4".    Stove pipe crown is 3-1/4" tall.   Inside circumference of the crown is 14".  As I mentioned this hat would have been worn perched on the head.     The hat is a very nice example from this time period.  .
