Martha Gale Designer Label 1940 Tangerine Linen 2 Piece Dress Suit
A stunning linen summer suit in a two piece design with short sleeve jacket and soft pleated skirt. Martha Gale designer label for Cartwright.
This sweetheart of a suit dates from the 1940's.
The applique flora embellished button holes certainly gives the jacket a distinctive look. Buttons covered in the same linen fabric form the center of the "flower". Fake slant pockets decorate either side of the front.
Padded shoulder pads to give extra dimension to the shoulders.
A nice styling touch to the back of the jacket with a false self-belted look.
Skirt closes on the side with metal zipper. Snaps and hooks on the waist band.
The suit has been freshly dry cleaned.
The condition is very nice although the hem of the skirt has been let out, probably to lengthen. It would need to be hemmed again. Also two small spots on the front of the skirt which were not removed by the cleaning process. A couple of the buttons show a tiny bit of wear on the edge of the fabric.
Measurements:
Jacket: 24" long from neck line to hem. 23" long center back. 14-1/2" across from shoulder to shoulder. 34" around the bust. Sleeve length is 10" long.
Skirt: Length of skirt is 26-3/4" long (not including the 1" seam binding at the edge). Waist band is 24" around. Hip 34".
