Lady's dress from the later Edwardian - 1920's era. The dress is made of two-tone blue silk satin with the bead work sewn to the skirt sides of dress, cuff of sleeve and along the square shaped neckline. Bodice is of a lighter shade of blue while the skirt is darker. Bodice is styled sleeveless with under blouse separate from the bodice. The long sleeves are attached to a cream silk under garment. Waist is dropped and separated from the skirt with cording in the same fabric. Hook and eyes fasten the side of dress from under the armhole to just below the waist. Fastenings also across the one shoulder seam. A side view of the dress. Beadwork follows the length of the side seams of the skirt. The beads are a small dark beads hand sewn to the fabric in a design of a straight line & small geometric motif. There are several rows of beads missing on the one side judging from the other side. Not apparent at first but studying the areas I see there are four rows missing or partially missing. Some beads missing to the cuffs . Neckline beading looks to be intact. If you notice in the above photo the hemline is a "balloon" hem line. Here is another photo of the hem line with a view of how it is finished. Some of the hand stitching is loose to the inside of dress at this area so few stitches are needed to secure again. Another photo of the side view of the hem line and bead work along the side of dress. Also as can be seen some discoloration of the fabric in the lower skirt. Photo showing the cream silk inside under garment of the dress. There is damage to the silk on the front of the one side. This is internal so would not be seen if the dress were displayed or worn. Although this dress is not perfect with the loss of some of beads, minor repair needed , damage to the silk under garment and some discoloration of the fabric on the lower part of the skirt the dress is still in presentable condition. Back of the dress. The dress looks to be a wearable size and I am guessing maybe a size 8. Here are the measurements: 50" long from the neckline to hem. 14" across from shoulder to shoulder. Bust 34". 18" sleeve length. Dropped waist line 36" around.
