I am offering a glass trinket box in the shape of a general's hat that I have had for a very long time. Over the course of time since I have had it, I have been able to learn some history. It seems it was produced during the war years of the 1940's and most likely given by service men to their wives or sweethearts.
Although I have not been able to ascertain the glass company that produced this trinket box, I am reasonably sure it was produced by a glass house here in the US.
The trinket box measures 5-1/4" across the bottom from front to back. Side to side the measures is 3-1/2". Diameter of the lid is 4-5/8". 1-1/4" deep.
Condition of the glass: a few nicks along the inside edge of the lid as well as the inside edge of the base. Which is just normal from usage of lifting the lid. Although flaws I consider the nicks minor.
A historical glass trinket box to add to a collection.
The hat is in two pieces - a bottom and a lid. The lid is mirrored on the outside and glass ribbed on the inside. It is a stained painted or a washed glass in a gold color, of which there is some wear to the stain/wash as can be noted from the photographs.
The mirror is beveled and sits down into the lid of the glass. Some loss of silvering to the mirror.
