Product Information

Vintage 1930s Appliqued Flower Embroidery Muslin Bib Apron

Yesterday's aprons were very much a part of a woman's wardrobe. The apron helped to protect her clothes from soil while cooking, cleaning and other household duties she might attend to.  A tail of an apron was also handy to wipe a brow or a child's tears.  As aprons were worn almost constantly while at home, why not make them as pretty as possible?

You will find an amazing array of styles and designs with equally as many kind of needlework embellishments.  Most all are home sewn from fabrics at hand, such as feed sack or flour sacking bags.

The apron featured here is an applique made in the 1930.  It is a muslin apron in a bib style trimmed in light pink bias tape along all outside edges.  Buttons at either side of the back edge of the bib that fastens near the waist line of the front of apron.  A single patch pocket on the one side of front.

The apron is embellished with five applique flowers measuring 5" in diameter (except the one on pocket - it is 3-1/2").  Each flower is embroidered with button-hole stitch along the edge and center.  French knots form the center of the flower.

Length from the center shoulder to the hem is 42-1/4" long.

Condition is good (possibly never used) with only a few slight yellow marks from storage.
