A certain little girl must have felt like a princess wearing this wonderful creation of taffeta of "zillions" of ruffles that shimmered and rustled as she quickly moved about. A little party dress that might have served as a flower girl's dress this pleasing confection dates from the 1930s.
It is a floor length dress with the skirt made up of rows of ruffles upon ruffles ~ namely twelve to be exact. Scattered throughout the skirt are small clusters of felt flowers. Bodice is trimmed in narrow black satin ribbon with, again, a cluster of flowers sewn to the front. Sleeveless with off the shoulder ruffle and narrow strap to secure the dress on the shoulder. Narrow ruffle follows the scoop neckline of the bodice both front and back.
The under construction of the dress (skirt area only) is made of tulle netting with each of the ruffles sewn to the netting as shown in the photos. Back of the dress ~ Dress has a single snap closure hidden at the front in the narrow neck ruffle. This is the only opening to the dress. Otherwise it slipped over the head.
Measurement of the dress is as follows: Length from the middle of shoulder strap to the hem is 33" long. Width across from shoulder to shoulder is 8". Waist is 22" around. Chest is 22-1/2" around.
Condition of the dress: Some soiling along the hem where the dress came in contact with the floor. A couple of oxidation spots from storage such as shown in below photo. And a repair to the back of one of the arm hole seam as shown above. I did not notice any other damage to the dress. This dress is absolutely a delight to behold.
With a little imagination, all of our vintage children's clothing makes perfect accessories for re-enactment or renaissance costuming.
