Product Information
An early brown calico work blouse or maternity jacket? dating 1860s or early 1870s.
The blouse buttons down the front with 7 brown vegetable ivory buttons. The button holes are hand made of black thread with precised even stitches. Seams are machine stitched with turning of the hem, neckline and sleeve edges hand bound.
Print of the calico fabric is smaller in scale in a pleasing shape and color.
Two curved seams starting at the underside of the sleeve and center back seam give the back of the blouse a bit of a flare.
This fabric is very sturdy and doesn't appear subject to much wearing or laundering. Although I am sure it has had some. However, there is some fading - a couple of smaller areas on the front with one at the hem line and a couple more on the lower part of the back. For the age I feel this in minor. Measurements: 31" long from the neckline to the hem. 15-1/4" across from shoulder to shoulder. 34" around the bust. I am pleased to have acquired this nice calico garment and to offer it for sale. If you are a country collector of early calicos this is a wonderful color for a display.
