Product Information
A delicate embroidered batiste with lace trim lingerie cap or bonnet dating from mid Edwardian to early 1920s
As a fashionable head cover during this period we tend to think most of the caps of this type were bed bonnets or breakfast caps. Although I believe most were worn for that purpose, others were definitely an accessory to the beautiful lingerie dress of the time. The French Haute Couture houses, especially the house of the Boue Sisters, with their signature dresses of the light airy and beautifully detailed confections would have given rise to lingerie caps to compliment those lovely dresses of the day.
So perhaps a cap, such as this, would have, indeed, been worn as day wear with a lingerie dress.
The crown of the cap is of machine embroidered batiste fabric accented around the edge of the batiste with a narrow band of lace.
Attached to the narrow lace a delicate wide lace ruffle decorated with cream silk ribbon tied in bows. Lovely clean condition.
The inside circumference is 24"
