Product Information
The harsh winters in northern climates of this great country during the 19th Century was a test in fortitude of keeping warm. Winter clothing was heavy with many layers of garments to endure bitter cold walking to school or just outdoors attending household chores. Over the remnants of time occasionally a garment will be found to put into perspective the harshness and hardiness of our ancestors.
So I am offering to you a pair of hand knitted wool stockings from the 19th Century made for a small child. This pair of maroon wool stockings made in a ribbed pattern on the upper with most of the foot in plain stitch are quite heavy suggesting they did their duty in a cold climate.
They are a smaller size for a child three years of age. The length of the stockings from toe to top is 16" long. Toe to heel the measurement is 5-1/4" long.
In spite of a few small holes in the wool, the stockings are in remarkably good condition. A perfect compliment to a country decorating scheme or if you love to collect children's apparel I am sure the stockings will please. Many of our items are more than suitable for childrens re-enactment or renaissance accessories.
