Product Information
Aprons were meant to protect the dress from soil and dirt but some aprons are more than utilitian going a step further by becoming a fashionable decorative garment worn over a dress. Such as the case with this adorable later 1870's - 1880's Victorian pinafore apron. Made of black sateen / polished cotton the pinafore apron features large over the shoulder ruffle and a decorative bodice front.
A pretty red and white embroidered trim edging accents the ruffles and top edge of the bodice with another type of red and white braid used along with the embroidered trim.
The skirt is gathered to a waistband that fastens in the back with two buttons.
A cross strap buttons on one side to keep the shoulder straps from sliding. The fabric for the strap is of a brown lining fabric rather than the black sateen.
Measurements: 36-1/2" long. The waist is 26" around. 9" across the shoulders not including the 4" ruffles.
Although there is slight damage to the fabric of the apron it still is very nice and very presentable condition. The damages I found were a few pin holes and a short shred to the fabric (about 1") in the skirt area.
A very striking apron for a young miss.
