Product Information
I am so pleased to offer this sweet young junior miss 1860s ~ Civil War era dress in a cotton print so suitable for a summer outing. Close your eyes for a moment and let your mind wander back to what life might have been like in the 1860's away from the brutal affects of the Civil War to a place where life was more gentle. It would be easy to imagine a girl of 12 or 13 years of age wearing this dress on a warm summer day, perhaps reading, while possibly tending younger siblings while they were playing. The dress is round neckline with a tiny piping at the neck edge in the same fabric as the dress. Slightly dropped shoulders with, again, piping between the armhole and sleeves. Sleeves are tiered in a set of three ruffles each edged in narrow bobbin lace. Front bodice fastens down the front with small pearl buttons. 13 to be exact. Inside of bodice only is lined in white muslin. Also please note on photo above, just at the base of the armhole there is a small hole in the fabric. Although it does not really show on account of the white muslin lining the bodice. On the bodice two boned stays on either side of the side seams front plus three situated on the back of bodice. Dress is mostly handstitched. Many of our items are more than suitable for childrens re-enactment or renaissance accessories. Measurement of dress: 46" long from the neckline at the center back to the hem. 12" across from shoulder to shoulder. 25" around the chest. 21" around the waist. A tear in the skirt possibly where the dress caught on something. It is a vertical tear about 4" long on the back side seam. This could be easily mended. Some small oxidation marks to the dress from storage. 130" around the circumference of the hem. A lovely dress to acquire for a collection of early clothing. A plus for this dress if you like history, notes etc.~ a cloth laundry tag stitched to the neckline gives clue the dress belong to "Hollister". Of course, don't we wish for more information....
