Product Information
In the past, chores were very much a part of daily home life with many of them being labor intensive. For example, the housewife providing clean and pressed clothing for her family, may have toiled two or more days of the week from washing through completed ironing.
One way of storing dirty clothing and household linens until laundry day was the use of large storage bag such as the homespun bag I am offering.
This is an authentic homespun bag home sewn from the early 1900's. It is made of a cotton fabric, that we as collectors, classify as factory homespun. How does one tell factory homespun? Colored factory woven pieces more often than not, will have loose threads at the selvage from the color change, but will still have a straight edge, not an irregular edge as fabric that is hand loomed.
I have also read factory made fabrics from the mid 19th century were 30" wide while late 1800's to early 1900's fabrics most generally are 24" to 27" wide.
The fabric of this particular bag is 23-1/2" wide with two widths making up the bag. (47" totally around.) It measures 43" long with a drawstring at the top.
Condition of the bag is good. No holes. A few dots of staining and some soiling which is to be expected.
