Truly a piece of the past and yet for decades, the feather tick cover was an essential part of the bed as it certainly did make for a softer sleeping experience. The tick cover I am offering is a pretty one in a red and white plaid dating near or at the 1900's.
The tick covers were made of sturdy fabrics ~ linens and homespuns for example ~ with opening at one end which were either tied or buttoned closed. Stuffed with down or chicken feathers the ticks provided some cushion to the hard frame of the wood bed.
It measures 44" wide x 64" long. The pattern scale (should you need to know) is 1" square. The only seams to the tick are on either side.
This particular tick cover buttoned on the one end, however, the buttons are missing and there is some damage around the areas of where the buttons would have been.
The tick is very clean and free of stains.
As you can see in the above two photographs. Although this damage is relatively minor and with a little repair this could be easily mended.
