What a beautiful pair of Victorian pillow shams dating from the late 1890's - 1910. These pillow shams are Italian from a trousseau and are made of linen. Hand embroidery and drawn lace creates the loveliness and beauty.
The 4" border completely around the sham is filled with embroidered bouquet of flowers with the scattering of smaller flowers.
If you notice the center of bows that tie the bouquets, they are of drawn threads. It is very precise small work. Inside the border, separated by 1/2" of drawn lace, in two of the corners are stems of flowers tied with a large bow.
Again, openwork of the bow is of drawn lace. A larger version of this bow is in the center of the two smaller ones.
The shams are a layover type measuring 32" wide x 33" long. Lovely condition.
