Dating from the early 1900s an exquistive pair of Appenzell embroidery fine linen button back pillow sham or pillowcases. In each of the corners of the sham, worked in embroidery, is a trumpet flower in an Art Nouveau style. The gorgeous flower measures 16" wide x 10" tall with the needlework covering almost all but the inner most portion of the sham. Button holes on either side of the back opening that would have taken a type of double shank button. A button of this type could be easily removed for the laundering of the shams. (no buttons included). The overall size of each sham is 31" x 33". Shams are in very nice condition. Freshly laundered. A beautiful pair that I don't think would be a disappointment.
