The sentiments of the old Victorian punched paper motto samplers can be charming such as this framed "Home Sweet Home" sampler.
This particular sampler dates from the 1880's and is still in the original wood frame with its incised decoration. The frame is gilded on the top side and black paint on the sides. The overall size of the sampler including the frame is 5-3/4" x 8".
The embroidery work is nicely accomplished in tones of cream and a golden brown.
It is in my opinion, the sampler is in very nice condition. A small amount of staining at the top of sampler and a small straight tear in the punch paper also in the same area of the staining. Only on close examination is the tear obvious as no paper is missing.
