Product Information
This fabric yardage that I am offering is a factory made homespun in a small blue and white check dating from 1880 - 1900. I have often been asked how does one tell if a piece is hand woven homespun or factory made homespun? So here's a tidbit of knowledge to help distinguish between factory homespun and hand woven.
Hand woven cloth generally has a more irregular edge than factory woven cloth. The colored factory woven pieces more often than not will have loose threads at the selvage, from the color change, but will still have a straight edge. I have also read factory made fabrics from the mid 19th century were 30" wide while late 1800's / early 1900's fabrics most generally are 24" to 27" wide.
It is 2 yards long x 26-1/2" wide.
The condition is unused but noticed a few tiny dot size holes in one area of the yardage.
A close up detail of the holes. These are very small, and more than likely could be worked around if using the fabric in a project.
