I love the simple naive not quite perfectly made Easter decorations from the 1940s. It was a time I grew up in so the chalkware piece above brings fond memories of cute little critters I found in my Easter basket, some of which I still have.
The chalkware rabbit sitting on the back of the chicken is 5-3/8" tall x 4-1/8" wide from the tail feathers of the chicken to the beak.
This type of chalkware was sold in dime stores so the manufacture and painting of the pieces was not refined, although some pieces are better than others.
Many times the molds were not poured perfectly so there will be flaws and imperfections in the manufacture.

What can I say? These pieces were easily damaged as noted in the above photo with a tad of the chicken's beak broken.
Although no chalkware missing there is a slight scrape in the red paint on the underside of the chicken.
Aside from the bruise on the beak and a scrape of the red paint, I found no other damage to the piece that is notable.
As I mentioned before there will be some slight imperfection to the mold itself due to manufacture.
Its a fun piece and one I am sure would add charm to an Easter collection or table decorating setting.
