Product Information
Many Christmas tree ornaments from the past were handmade of paper scrap combined with spun cotton, crepe paper or tinsel etc. Sometimes a combination of all and other times just one or two different materials.
Each carefully crafted "scrap ornament" is unique and can offer the collector a wide variety of choice.
The above early 1900s scrap of a little girl holding her doll is combined with a "skirt" of folded and pleated crepe paper. A string "hanger" attached to the back of the scrap makes this ornament ready to take its place among the tree branches.
The scrap is a taller one measuring 10" tall x 6" wide at the bottom of the skirt.
The skirt is quite intricate with many folds, cuts and pleats.
The ornament is made with an inner piece of cardboard wrapped in pink crepe paper. I would suppose to represent the petticoat. The outer skirt is then wrapped around this cardboard. The scrap head and shoulder of the little girl is then attached to the skirt and cardboard.
The backside of the ornament.
As with many paper ornaments it does show some imperfections from usage and the course of time. If you look close at the first photo you will notice a repair to her chin and also one to the bow in her hair. Both have been mended with tape. There is paper loss to her left shoulder also. So the ornament is not perfect but very charming and a fitting tribute to a Christmas past. .
