Product Information
For all you primitive country folks or collectors of old writing items, The Gatherings is offering a nice 19th Century wooden pencil box. I really loved the shaped handle on this one!
This box still has the original finish which has aged to a wonderful patina. Sliding lid cut on an angle opens the box just the one way. Inside bevel on the lid fits against the box to securely fasten. Slotted flat iron screw fastens the lid to the base of the box. Although I'm not that knowledgable, I believe the screw may be handmade from the appearance.
Back of the box.
Side of box.
Size: The length is 9-1/2" long (including the knob-type handle) x 1-1/2" wide x 5/8" deep.
Condition: I found no splits to the wood. I do question the spotting on the surface of the finish of the top and one side of the box which I believe you can see from the photos. I will leave this for your judgement.
