The gorgeous crochet trim makes this Matelasse / Marseilles bedspread, along with two sheets, an extraordinary set. Dating from the early 1900's, the bedspread and one sheet have been used.
The woven design of the bed spread is in a floral pattern with a center oval measuring 29" long x 18-1/2" wide. The oval is surrounded by a square border followed by an outer edge of floral wreaths measuring 9" in diameter. The remainder of the spread is of a diamond design. The hand crochet attached to the edge is 9-1/4" wide. This trim is on three sides - bottom and two long sides.
To accept the bedpost, the bottom corners are cut in a well rounded shape. At this point the crochet trim measures 22" in length. Overall size of the bedspread is 94" long x 103" in width. The crochet trim has been machine stitched to the edge of the spread.
Condition: although still very nice, I found the matelasse does have one worn area of fabric near the foot of bed. It measures 1" long x 1/4" wide that should be mended.
The second unused sheet is not completely finished but would not be hard to complete. To finish, the sheet would need the bottom and top hem to be stitched although it is basted. The same with the crochet trim as it, too, is basted to the edge of the sheet but would need to be permanently attached.

A View Of Both Bed Sheets...
Although the crochet pattern matches on both sheets, each is made just slightly different.
The crochet edging on the unfinished sheet has been laid over the corner of the sheet. The width of the crochet is wider at this point.
The Finished Sheet...
A lovely quality cotton sheeting fabric measuring 90" wide including the 4-1/2" wide crochet along the top edge of the sheet x 119" long.
The bed sheet is made with a sheet return extending along each side 34" which is edged with the crochet.
Condition is very nice and at some time in more recent years has been laundered & pressed. Although I did not notice you may find a tad of oxidation from storage.
Unfinished Sheet.....
The sheet, itself, has been basted but never sewn. The crochet is also basted to the edge of the sheet but never permanently attached. The crochet trim measures 4-1/2" wide.
It does have a 37" long sheet return with the crochet trim along these two sides. At the corners the crochet measures 15" deep on the triangle.
Overall size is 120" long and 99" wide including the crochet edging.
